Takumi Synthetic Engine Oil

All base oil is made from crude oil that has been refined. Synthetic oil is very different from mineral oil through the advanced refining processes. Synthetic base oil is when chemical compounds that are artificially made by being manufactured using chemically modified petroleum components rather than whole crude oil, or be synthesized from other raw materials. Synthetic engine oils provide better benefits that protect your engine for more optimal performance.

The process synthetic oil undergo is not only refined but also distilled, purified and broken down into its basic molecules. This process has two purposes. The first to remove as many impurities from the crude oil. The second is to enable individual molecules in the oil to be tailored to create the best engine oil. Two traditional synthetic oils are PAO and Ester.

PAO

One type of synthetic base oil is API Group IV polyalphaolefin or PAO. PAOs are made by polymerizing an alpha-olefin molecule. That is an addition reaction under specific conditions of heat, pressure, and/or the presence of a catalyst. This process allows for many monomers to bond together by rearrangement of bonds without the loss of any atom or molecule.

PAOs have unique benefits that are different from other synthetics:

  • Lower temperature flow characteristics
  • High oxidative and thermal stability
  • Low volatility
  • Higher viscosity index

ESTER

Another type of synthetic base oil is API Group V Ester. Esters are made by reacting acids with alcohols. There are many types of esters, such as diesters, polyolesters, alkylated benzenes and phosphate esters. The process of manufacturing Esters allows for unique properties.

Esters have unique benefits that are different from other synthetics:

  • Biodegradability
  • High-temperature oxidative stability
  • High film strength

PAO and Ester are the traditional way of creating synthetic oils. These methods tend to be costly for manufacturing. So, synthetic engine oils that are made up of PAO and Ester tend to be more expensive. The performance in these oils, however, is far superior to mineral based oils. Synthetic oil was designed to have better performance in protecting the engine. Advantages of synthetic oils include:

  • Better low and high-temperature viscosity performance
  • Better (higher) Viscosity Index (VI)
  • Better chemical and shear stability
  • Decreased evaporative loss
  • Resistance to oxidation, thermal breakdown, and oil sludge problems
  • Extended drain intervals, with the environmental benefit of less used oil waste generated
  • Better lubrication during extreme cold weather start

Takumi Motor Oil offers superior performance when it comes to our range of synthetic engine oils. We believe that only the best should be put into our cars. The engine is the core component of our cars. It is what many would call it the heart of the car. Because of this, we should take the most care when choosing what oil to use.

Takumi has spent years with research and development on formulating the range of synthetic engine oil for different cars and driving purposes. If you are looking for the high performance, motorsports engine oil range, our Extreme Series is what you are looking for. For synthetic engine oil where quality and value are formulated together, our High Quality Series will satisfy your needs.
